more than just a soccer team, team zelva was formed by close friends from the class of 2e6 (2000, zhonghua secondary school) on 29th march 2002. the boys loved soccer, and days after school were spent on discovery; discovery not just of self, but also of others. we picked each other up whenever anyone fell, we gave each other love, hope, and lots of fun.

it became evident that once the class was to be split up in 2003, we might face, if even the most remote, possibility of losing one another. kenneth, team zelva’s beloved chairman, took the first step, suggesting that we form a soccer team. the jerseys were soon chosen (thank you darren, kenneth and teck) and the team finalized.

many thanks must be given to joseph, who suggested our team symbol be the turtle, reflecting longevity and perseverance as immortalized by the endearing “The tortoise vs the hare” tale.

2003 saw the arrival of alex’s brother, simon, and the departure of you xiang. but till today the team has remained largely unchanged and we still (lets not use the word train) play soccer every saturday afternoon, organizing friendlies occasionally.

the players have matured and definitely improved remarkably throughout the years. the most important thing is we have remained close friends and become a part of each other’s lives. one can only pray that we never forget that we belong to a wonderful community - a wonderful community only because we make it so. and anyone who is no longer part of the team can take heart because he will still be part of this community, he will still be a close friend.

team zelva stands for more than just a team. team zelva stands for passion, humor, love, friendship, and sport.
