zelva participated in
her first tournament since the team was established in 2002. we were
unfortunate to play with a 9-men team as shao wei and desmond fell ill
on tournament day. we were lucky to get last minute replacement tianyi
in the team.
the tournament is open
to the public with 32 teams participating this year. the majority of
the team had malay or indian players and a couple of them were experienced
players in their 30s. zelva was drew in group c with scsa black, mievo
and de united.

the game was dominated by scsa black;
they had many goal scoring chances in the first half. zelva was lucky
to hold scsa to a goalless scoreline at halftime, as liang ze was outstanding
with his punching saves from close range. he was the make-shift goalkeeper
for the tournament due to his ankle injury sustained during training
yesterday at the cage.
finally, scsa black managed to score
a goal in the 2nd half. despite being 1 goal down, we did not give up
and nick took a well struck free kick which forced the scsa goalkeeper
to make a brilliant save. we allowed too much space in the flanks for
the speedy scsa wingers as we played with only 2 defenders.

the game. the entire team was composed and we had numeral scoring chances.
however, we losed our concentration in the 2nd half and conceded 2 soft
goals to mievo.

zelva was already out
of the tournament before the start of the last match, but we were determined
to play hard to conclude this tournament. we had great possession of
the ball and some scoring opportunities. cabin and kenneth were in good
goal scoring positions for numeral occasions throughout the match, but
they failed to string good passes resulting in poor attempts at goal.

tournament reflections
the tournament was a
great experience for zelva as we had learnt valuable lessons and gain
match experiences.
we were not used to
the tempo of the games, lack tournament experiences and had no concrete
game plan or playing style to beat our opponents. in the future, we
need to play against different types of teams on a more regular basis
to improve and gain experiences, in order to develop a playing style
and team tactics.
