zelva 0 team tau huay 6

we played against timothy's team, team tau huay on 15th february, two weeks after our match against team sfa. sorry for the late entry because i have been occupied with my heavy schoolwork for the past few months.

we got off to a poor start by conceding an early goal from the opponent's throw in. the first half ended with zelva trailing by four goals. tactical changes were made at the start of the 2nd half, by adding an additional centreback shang and swapping goalkeeper brandon with kenneth hu. the best zelvarian of the match was shang, who battled hard as a forward in the first half and defended well as a centreback in the second.

the guys from zhss 2e3 boon gee, dai yuan, chin teck, kwee chuang, yee han and brandon played for us in the match. the match photos are available in the gallery section.

zelva 1 sfa 4

welcome 2009! we played a match against clement's church team (clement is darryl's adm friend). we had a good turnout yesterday, with sixteen players including guest players yibin, boongee, daiyuan and yeehan.

we conceded two goals in the first half, one early goal and another before half-time; the second one was a giveaway after a defensive error from centreback kelvin.

we were more composed and played better in the second half. however, we conceded a third goal before kim joo scored his debut goal for us to make the score 1-3. the game ended 1-4; clement scored the last goal from a well-timed through pass to penetrate our defence.

we have to work on our finishing, as we had quite a number clear-cut goalscoring chances that we failed to capitalise. defensively, we have to be more composed in our play and learn to keep possession, but this can only be achieved by playing friendly matches on a regular basis (but this will be hard given all the university and ns commitments).

although we may have lost this match, learning from our mistakes are more important. the fighting spirit we showed when we scored back a goal in the second half despite conceding three already is the type of attitude we should have and lets carry on this momentum during our future training sessions and matches!

zelva 0 e21 0

we played against our arch rival e21 at derby ground two days ago. this is a special match as zelvarians simon, faisal and bee chai played for e21 in the 9-a-side friendly match. Our starting lineup: shao wei, zhao ming, kelvin, teck wee, kang le, nick, alex, tianyi and yibin.

it was goalless at half-time. in the second half, teck wee replaced shao wei as goalkeeper to allow shao wei to play an attacking role in order to strengthen our attack. simon switched side and played for us instead for the remaining half, replacing kang le who was injured in the first half. both teams created numeral chances throughout the entire match but they were all neutralised by the stubborn defence at both ends. at the end, we managed to earn a draw despite having no subs on the bench, under the hot afternoon sun.

defensively, we need to work more as a unit (especially in set-piece defending) and by doing so, we will be more confident in dealing with the opponents' attacking threats, and also gain and control more ball possession. by doing so, we can have more penetration in attacks, more on-target shots and goals, which is certainly lacking in the match. hence, there is a need for us to work more together as a team on these areas during the next few training sessions.

zelva 0 rowdees fc 4

tz embarked into another new phrase this year as the 3rd generation leadership headed by alex complete the tz leadership renewal by swearing into office at tampines on sunday, 13th january. A welcome lunch was subsequently held at the brand new changi terminal 3.

The alex administration officially took over command from kelvin's regime during the match against rowdees fc. alex directed and maneuver the tz forces from the sidelines while kelvin led the combat on the field. demonstrating his benevolence and 'kampong' policy, he loaned chin teck the famed no6 jersey and gave his boots to star striker shang after gk wee poh boots had a malfunction. Even though the match ended up in a 4-0 defeat, the players were upbeat and filled with enthusiasm that they will put things rite soon.

"we swear by death to kill along the bloody road of defending the honour of the motherland and realise our youthful dreams," the players reportedly recited in unison after nick.

chairman hu will now move into a mentor role acting as consultant concerning important affairs like where to go for dinner for alex while kelvin move into a more senior role concentrating more on resolving small issues like darryl's fitness problem.

Meanwhile, a press release from le vras stated that alex will be taking a 2-4 week vacation for official duty and queshed rumours that the break was for the washing of the no6 jersey.

More good years ahead!

zelva 0 team tau huay 4

we played our 31st match against timothy's team, called team tau huay, on 21st april. it was meant to be a testimonial match for darren, who got enlisted on 27th april. please check out the gallery page for matchday photos.

we never really got into the game as team tau huay dominated the play and poor luck summed up the day for us, with an unfortunate own goal by kelvin in the first half. we played much better in the second half by playing with more composure and earning a better share of possession. however, we still conceded two additional goals from two set pieces.

the defeat shows that we lack match experience, but it is inevident because it hard to play matches regularly when the majority of zelvarians are serving national service. despite the tough ns transition period, we are still able to come down for the weekly zelva training at le vras ke mas mos mos. full marks for ngak hiang for playing goalkeeper for zelva again.

the first post of year 2007. many things happen for the last 4 months. we had our usual training sessions at le vras ke mas mos mos, serangoon park and the cage. we also celebrated the new year together at zhao ming's place, and don't forget nick and kenneth hu's 21st birthday parties in pasir ris.

also congratulations to the singapore lions for defending the asean football championships title! we watched two matches together, the opening match against vietnam (0 - 0) and the final 1st-leg against thailand (2 - 1). The best and last match at the kallang stadium!

i have decided to remove the tagboard due to spamming. it is quite useless anyway. expect more matches from zelva in the near future due to the influx of Nsmen in zelva!!!

i am glad that weekly training sessions has been going on well, even though the majority of zelva members are committed to ns. however, i would like to see zelva play more friendly matches in the future. right now it is quite impossible for us to organise any match with any team due to the ns transition..

zelva 0 montfort knights 2

team zelva held a testimonial game in honour of darryl, simon, alex and kim joo on saturday at serangoon secondary in view of their impending enlistments. montfort knights duly accepted our invitation. 

the game, which was played in a friendly spirit, saw zelva experiment with a new 4-1-3-2 formation in the first half. 

a single goal behind at half time, we switched back to a flat 4-4-2. we managed to control the game better but were unable to get the goal needed. montfort knights added a second midway in the second half.

thanks to simon for organising the game.

with this testimonial, we would like to offer our utmost thanks to darryl, alex, simon and kim joo for their loyalty, devotion and dedication to team zelva during the past years. as they embark on a new journey, we wish them well and hope that they will still be able to play with us in future.

zelva 3 yishun norwich 3

zelva encountered a thrilling 3-3 draw in its first friendly of the year on saturday. guest players timothy, kim joo and liangze made zelva appearances. 

after conceding two goals, cabin did well to place an effort into the bottom right corner to claw one back for zelva before half-time. timothy then moved into an outfield position in the second half to equalise following a low cross by kim joo from the right.  

a defensive error allowed yishun to regain the lead before a seemingly harmless cross from timothy floated over the goalkeeper and settled the tie.

zelva played at the cage on 4 feb saturday. the cage is a indoor football field converted from an existing warehouse. it is expensive at $100 per hour with two artificial pitches. we had a great time playing in the cage. we wish we could play there again in the near future but it is just too expensive for a social team like zelva. we need sponsors!

the following day was a big milestone for zelva. we played in the ngee ann polytechnic 7-a-side open tournament. despite being last position in group c, i am sure zelva players gain valuable experiences from participating in competitive matches.

something funny happened during the tournament:

a white indian player (he wore white jersey) ran onto the pitch halfway through one of the match in another group and punched a orange indian player (he wore orange) in the head. soon after that a herd of 50 players ran onto the pitch and pinned down the orange player. the scene was hilarious and the orange team was disqualified from the tournament. live football drama!

zelva 2 nameless fc 4

zelva played nameless fc last month on christmas eve 24 dec. we had three guest players who made the long trip to yishun field, namely cabin, liang ze and cabin. thanks for playing!

despite playing against a tough and physical side, we played well by having a greater possession of the ball. however, goals from shang and kenneth hu were not enough to help zelva overcome nameless fc.

zelva 3 yellow cornerstones 0

zelva played against yellow cornerstones last weekend on 25 sept at maju camp. darryl, plus guest players kim joo and liang ze, played for cornerstones, while guests wee poh and shao wei played for zelva.

nick opened the floodgates in the first half with a simple tap-in, thanks to shang's assist. before the end of the first half, alex scored a spectacular goal from outside the penalty box after collecting the ball from a weak clearance during a cornerkick.

shang sealed the game for zelva with his trademark goal, by bulldozing through cornerstones's defensive line. darryl was outstanding for cornerstones, who threaded dangerous passes to breach zelva's defence. however, we defenced well as a team and managed to keep a clean sheet.

zelva 2 team e21 1

yesterday we played against our arch-rivals e21 (includes some katong rangers members & other unknown players) at our derby ground serangoon north.

we played well as a team despite having no sub in the hot & hazy weather. zelva conceded the first goal but we managed to equalise later through bee chai's header from a corner kick. shang eventally scored the winning goal, thanks to faisal's freekick, which was taken quickly to catch team e21 unprepared.

zelva played at nyjc against team holy innocents with our new jersey. we had a shaky start in the first half, conceding 3 goals in the first half. after the break, we will more composed and played better, wtih goals from cabin, kenneth, daniel and nick. our guest players ngak hiang and cabin played well.

man of the match: cabin. he helped zelva broke the deadlock on his debut and dominated the midfield with his physical presence and determination to play well.
